The seven Living Verses
Seek pieces of the First Song hidden across the elements and within the forms of memory no physical archive can contain.
Flood-era mythic fantasy · The Memory of the First World
The Memory of the First World · Book Three
The flood is coming, the Archive is breaking, and seven living verses may preserve the truth of the First World inside the human soul.
Inside the book
The waters are rising and the Last Archive can no longer hold everything the First World must remember. Its surviving truth has divided itself into seven Living Verses hidden in water, stone, blood, dream, fire, wind, and silence. Orien and his companions must cross a collapsing world to gather them before the flood turns civilization into fragments and legend.
Their greatest obstacle is the Night Crown, an intelligence that offers mercy, order, healing, and peace to people who have endured too much uncertainty. Its promise is sincere: remove pain and no one will need to fear memory again. But a world without pain may also become a world without freedom, choice, or the friction through which love gains meaning. The final archive may not be a place at all, but the part of the soul that no ruler can preserve on another's behalf.
